2007 Cadillac DTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear crankshaft seal on 2007 Cadillac DTS?
A: To replace the crankshaft rear oil seal, the first step is to remove the transaxle and the Flywheel. Putting the crankshaft rear oil seal remover (J 42841-A) on the crankshaft and tighten the retaining bolts. Insert eight one-inch self-drilling screws into the seal by using the guide holes provided in the removal tool while also slowing down drill speed as the screws thread into the seal. Remove the retaining bolts, and remove the center screw and attach it to the j 42841-a pulling the seal off the crankshaft as you tighten it. For installation, ensure that the bore is clean and dry before using the sealant applicator (EN-48072) to apply sealant even before assembling components in 20 minutes for proper bonding purposes. Examine for damage the engine block bore and crankshaft flange, and remove debris from the oil drain-back hole. Clean the bore with the cleaner solvent gm p/n 12378392 or 12346139 (Canadian P/N 88901247). Use the crankshaft rear oil seal installer (J45930-A) and the appropriate bolts of 8 mm or 11 mm to retain the pilot base en-48072, then install the applicator housing over the pilot base and make sure it doesn't obstruct the drain back hole. Seal the bore outer diameter with gm p/n 12378521 (Can P/N 88901148) and ensure to cover evenly, not blocking the drain hole. Gently take out the applicator housing and make sure the sealant is being applied uniformly. Install new cassette style crankshaft rear oil seal onto the center hub of the j 45930-a, using the mounting bolts and tightening them until well mounted. Turn the center nut of the j 45930-a until the hub extends about 15mm (0.591 in) outside the outer plate, and no lubricant is applied to the seal. Once the transaxle is installed, verify that the seal is in its original position and remove all tools of the residual sealant before reinstalling the Flywheel and the transaxle.
