  A: Start by removing the Flywheel before you can replace the crankshaft rear oil seal. You need the rear oil seal remover (J 42841-A) to pull out the rear crankshaft oil seal. A smooth distribution of rtv sealant requires the en-48072 sealant applicator to maintain drain back hole accessibility while component assembly must be completed within 20 minutes of sealant application. Engine blocks produced between march 1, 1996 onward have deep bores while engine blocks made between 1993 and february 29, 1996 have shallow bores which require a lip-style crankshaft rear oil seal coupled with installation tool (J 38817-A). Check the engine block bore and crankshaft flange for harm while cleaning all materials from the oil drain-back hole. The bore needs to be cleaned using either gm p/n 12378392 or 12346139 cleaner solvent (Canadian P/N 88901247). Use bolts from the crankshaft rear oil seal installer (J 45930-A), choosing either an 8 mm or 11 mm bolt depending on installation requirements. Insert en-48072 pilot base onto crankshaft while verifying its proper fitment before installing proper bolts from j 45930-a. Fit en-48072 applicator housing over the pilot base so it rests at bottom of bore while applying sealant gm p/n 12378521 (Canadian P/N 88901148) to the bore's outer diameter keeping the drain hole open. The applicator housing and pilot base should be gently removed after spreading an even layer of sealant throughout the bore. Check both the drain back hole's visibility and the uniform distribution of sealant. The installer should be securely attached to the crankshaft after tightening the mounting bolts of the j 45930-a onto its center hub where the new cassette style crankshaft rear oil seal will be installed. Once the drive portion reaches the cranskase with the center nut of the j 45930-a apply pressure before removing the installer. The correct installation of this new seal demands the outer surface should face below the engine block by 0.500 to 0.800 mm (0.0197 to 0.0315 in) while the inner sleeve position must rest 0.400 to 0.900 mm (0.0158 to 0.0354 in) lower than the seal's outer surface and stay in alignment with the block surface.
