• Q: How to replace the alternator (LY7) on 2007 Cadillac STS?

  A: Before replacing the generator (LY7) disconnect the battery negative cable while simultaneously removing the Drive Belt from the generator. Position the vehicle on a jack stand before using tools to disconnect both power cables as well as the generator's electrical connector. To access the generator output bat terminal there is a protective boot that needs to be relocated while removing the generator output bat terminal nut followed by disconnecting the battery positive lead from the generator. Initiate generator removal through lower bolt extraction before lowering the vehicle and finishing with the upper bolt removal to remove the generator from the engine. To install the generator place it on the engine and use the upper bolt to secure it. Raise the vehicle for support then tighten the generator lower bolts to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Screw the generator bat terminal nut to 13 n.m (115 lb in) after connecting the battery positive lead to the generator bat terminal. Then install the bat terminal boot. Lower your vehicle next, connect the electrical connector to the generator before repeating the installation process with the Drive Belt and battery negative cable.
