2007 Chevrolet Colorado Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake drum on 2007 Chevrolet Colorado?
A: You need to follow this procedure to replace the Brake Drum: lift the vehicle and detach the rear tire and wheel assembly and then remove the rear Brake Drum retainer. Before taking out the Brake Drum spray a tiny amount of penetrating oil on both the wheel studs and axle shaft hub together with the Brake Drum. Take out the rubber plug from the backing plate then insert a screwdriver to reach the adjuster lever. Slightly push the adjuster actuator lever back from the adjuster. Use a second screwdriver to rotate the adjuster upward until seated before removing the Brake Drum. The wheel hub resurfacing kit (J 42450-A) should be used to clean the mating surface that connects the Brake Drum to the rear axle flange. Measuring the Brake Drum with the drum to Brake Shoe clearance gage (J 22364-01) requires an adjustment of rear brake shoes prior to installation along with Brake Drum replacement and tire and wheel assembly reattachment. Finally, lower the vehicle.
