Chevrolet Colorado Brake Drum Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to properly handle the Brake Drum replacement process on Chevrolet Colorado?
A: First lift the vehicle and set it on stands before taking off the tire and wheel unit. Take out the brake retainer parts before taking the Brake Drum off. When the Brake Drum resists removal you can fix the shoes at rest by unplugging the rubber adjuster access hole under the Wheel Cylinder on the backing plate. You can replace the Brake Drum more easily by using a small tool to contact and push down the adjuster lever through its access hole while another tool enters the top of the hole to grab adjuster teeth. Put light pressure inward on the first tool while using the second tool to rotate the adjuster counterclockwise until the Brake Shoes move back and make it possible to remove the Brake Drum. Use the j-42450-a (Wheel Hub Resurfacing Kit) to scrape off dirt and corrosion from both Brake Drum and rear axle flange contact areas. Set the rear drum brakes before putting on the Brake Drum which gets followed by wheel and tire reinstallation.
