How to replace the rear parking brake cable for drum brakes on 2007 Chevrolet Malibu?

The first step to change drum brake rear park brake cables starts by releasing the park brake pedal then removing the floor console followed by taking out the rear carpet. The rear park brake wires 1 or 2 must be detached from both the console park brake bracket and the front park brake cable equalizer . The procedure begins with vehicle support while you raise it. Afterward release the cable tension by pulling down on the short cable at the drum then disconnect the cable from its connector. Positioning the Trailing Arm in an upward direction allows access to extract its brake cable along with its plastic retainer clips. Loosen the vehicle and detach the plastic retainer clip from the stud before taking out the park brake cable and pass-thru grommet from the body. To determine a correct fitment place the park brake cable within the vehicle then hook the pass-thru grommet to the body and fix it with a plastic retainer clip positioned on the stud. Raising the vehicle once more allows for plastic retainer clip installation onto the body before placing the brake cable inside the Trailing Arm while connecting the park brake cable to its cable connector . The lower vehicle position enables cable (1 or 2) attachment to console park brake bracket and front park brake cable equalizer. Reinstall the floor carpet pieces and console unit before performing four cycling operations of the park brake pedal.
