2008 Cadillac CTS A/C Expansion Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve on 2008 Cadillac CTS?
A: The halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) should be used first to check for leaks before you start to replace the thermal expansion valve (TXV). The first step requires removal of the instrument panel (I/P) carrier. Proceed by removing the insulation from the txv device before throwing it away. The hvac line clamp screw and clamp need removal. The procedure starts with removing the txv from the Evaporator by unfastening its securing bolts before taking out the txv line bracket. Take the txv directly from its position between the a/c lines before removing it completely. Prior to attaching a/c lines to the txv recipients must apply lubrication on the o-rings. Insert the txv onto the Evaporator core and complete installation when it reaches full seat position. Then mount the txv line bracket. The installation requires you to set the txv Evaporator bolts at 3.5 n.m (31 lb in) while tightening them. Secure the hvac line clamp with its screw by tightening it to 1 n.m force (8 lb in measurement). New insulation must be applied to the lines and txv before reinstalling the instrument panel carrier.
