First step when replacing the right side Exhaust Manifold for v8 and lhd models (LP1, LY7, LLT) involves removing the Exhaust Manifold heat shield. Take off all Catalytic Converter nuts first while also depriving the Exhaust Manifold of its bolts before discarding both gaskets. After discarding the gasket from the Exhaust Manifold remove it and clean and examine the manifold. A thorough check of the Catalytic Converter seal/heat shield sealing surface should take place before installation. Replace damaged or worn components if detected. The procedure requires a new Catalytic Converter seal/heat shield mounted onto the converter before adding a brand new Exhaust Manifold gasket to the Exhaust Manifold. Attach the Exhaust Manifold with its gasket against both the Catalytic Converter and Cylinder Head and then install Exhaust Manifold bolts before torquing them to 20 n.m (15 lb ft).
