  • Q: How to Replace a Fuel Level Sensor on the Left Side on 2008 Cadillac XLR?
    A: You must disconnect the Battery Cable before starting the replacement process of the left side Fuel Level Sensor. Place the left Fuel Tank on a work area after its removal. The procedure for replacing the Fuel Level Sensor on the left side begins with removing three components: the Fuel Pump jumper harness from the Fuel Pump module and the jet line insert connector from the crossover tube to the Fuel Tank opening along with the fuel feed line from the welded clip on the side of the Fuel Tank. When removing the locking ring the Fuel Pump module should be handled with care because it springs upward due to the spring mechanism. To remove the Fuel Pump module locking ring utilize the fuel sender lock ring tool (J39765-A) followed by module extraction from the tank retaining the jet lines attached and protecting the fuel sender float arm from damage. The quick-connect connector of the jet line needs to be disconnected from the Fuel Pump module inner port followed by removing the jet line from its cup then removing the Fuel Pump module o-ring from the opening of the Fuel Tank. The inspection of the jet line insert must be completed for potential damage followed by Fuel Tank opening receipt of a new pump module o-ring for subsequent jet line tape application which will be used to reattach the pump module. Insert the pump module halfway into the Fuel Tank while carefully checking for float arm damage and use the tape to assist in pulling up the jet line through the Fuel Pump module opening. Secure the jet line without connector inside the module retainer cup before entering the module retaining clip. The tape on the jet line must be removed through the connector while confirming proper latching of all connectors. First connect the Fuel Pump module inner port with the quick-connect connectors. Then compress and align the Fuel Pump module into the Fuel Tank followed by installation of the Fuel Pump module lock ring. Lock the Fuel Pump module lock ring completely using the fuel sender lock ring tool (J39765-A) then attach the fuel supply line to the weld clip positioned on the Fuel Tank side. A dmm should be used to test the Fuel Pump module resistance between empty tank and full tank states where the system must display 40 ohms resistance in the empty state and 250 ohms resistance when full. The installation process concludes by connecting the jet line insert connector to the crossover tube Fuel Tank opening then linking the Fuel Pump jumper harness to the Fuel Pump module before left Fuel Tank installation.
