2008 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the steering knuckle on 2008 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The first step to replace the Steering Knuckle involves properly raising and supporting the vehicle. First remove the bearing/hub assembly that belongs to the Wheel Bearing/service and repair/front suspension system before taking out the front lower control arm ball stud from control arm/service and repair system. In the next step remove the external Tie Rod End from the Steering Knuckle through the (Steering/Tie Rod/Tie Rod End/Service and Repair) procedure. First draw a scribe mark between the strut and knuckle before removing both bolts and nuts so you can later remove the knuckle from the vehicle. To reinstall the knuckle place it back on the car while keeping to the instructions provided on the fastener notice. Both strut bolts need to be tightened with 130 n.m (96 lb ft) torque until reaching proper specifications. Secure the Steering Knuckle's outer tie rod (Steering/Tie Rod/Tie Rod End/Service and Repair) while also fastening the front lower control arm ball stud to the knuckle (Control Arm/Service and Repair). After installing the front wheel drive shaft bearing (Wheel Bearing/Service and Repair/Front Suspension) lower the vehicle for inspection to check the front wheel alignment (Alignment/Service and Repair/Wheel Alignment Measurement) while making adjustments if required.
