2008 Chevrolet Uplander Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the auxiliary air conditioning evaporator on 2008 Chevrolet Uplander?
A: The necessary equipment for auxiliary air conditioning Evaporator replacement includes a halogen leak detector (J 39400-A). The first step is to remove the auxiliary HVAC module assembly from its position while carefully following the removal of screws along with the auxiliary thermal expansion valve (TXV) line clamp from the HVAC module assembly. The next step involves removing the TXV insulation along with the auxiliary TXV line block fitting bolt until you disconnect the A/C lines from the auxiliary TXV. Finally, discard the sealing washers. Apply immediate caps or tape to the exposed A/C lines to prevent outside substances from contaminating them. The installer should remove the auxiliary TXV to auxiliary Evaporator core bolts followed by pulling out the auxiliary TXV from the core while discarding the sealing washers once more. The maintenance process begins by removing screws from the auxiliary temperature actuator and actuator itself from the HVAC module and proceeding with the removal of housing screws and plastic housing from the auxiliary blower motor. The removal process starts with unscrewing all screws from the auxiliary HVAC module case to separate its halves before extracting the auxiliary Evaporator core from the lower HVAC module case. The installation process requires the addition of PAG oil to the new auxiliary Evaporator core before placing it inside the lower HVAC module case and properly assembling the case while tightening screws to 1.6 N.m (14 lb in). Attach both the auxiliary blower motor housing and its screws and keep them tight at 1.6 N.m (14 lb in). Secure the auxiliary temperature actuator through its screws along with a torque setting of 1.6 N.m (14 lb in). Set new sealing washers onto the auxiliary Evaporator core before you disconnect the cap or tape from A/C lines for installing the auxiliary TXV supported by mounting bolts tightened to 3.5 N.m (31 lb in). New sealing washers should be applied to the auxiliary TXV line block fitting before connecting it to the auxiliary Evaporator core using a retaining bolt tightened at 11 N.m (97 lb in). Finish the installation process by placing new TXV insulation while attaching the auxiliary TXV line clamp to the HVAC module assembly before securing it with 1.6 N.m (14 lb in) screws and reinstallation. The fittings need a leak test conducted by the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
