2009 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Heated Oxygen Sensor (Bank 2 Sensor 1) on 2009 Cadillac XLR?
A: It is vital to follow Oxygen Sensor caution before you can begin replacing the heated Oxygen Sensor (Bank 2 Sensor 1). From the driver seat bank two reaches the left engine side while sensor one locates nearest to the engine. The threads of reused sensors need to receive an application of anti-seize compound p/n 5613695. First disconnect the bank 2 sensor 1 electrical connector assembly attached to the fuel rail bracket through its separation from the bracket. Simultaneously disconnect the Oxygen Sensor electrical connector from the engine wiring harness. A small screwdriver should be used for removing the electrical connector retainer. Repeat this procedure also for the bank 2 sensor 2 electrical connector assembly. The evap hose must be removed first from the chassis bundle before placement on the side followed by the removal of both brake booster hose and check valve assembly. Support the vehicle while you take out both Oxygen Sensor wire harnesses from the rear engine retainer after noting their original assembly position. The bank 2 sensor 1 Oxygen Sensor wire harness with its connector should be carefully pulled down through the engine compartment before removing the sensor from the Exhaust Manifold. Install the bank 2 sensor 1 Oxygen Sensor to the Exhaust Manifold while tightening it to 42 nm (31 lb ft). Lift the vehicle while pulling the exhaust sensor electrical connector together with its wire harness into the engine compartment. Connect both Oxygen Sensor electrical connectors to the engine wiring harness connectors while installing the electrical connector retainer to the electrical connector. Both Oxygen Sensor electrical connector assemblies (1, 2) should be positioned on the fuel rail brackets followed by reconnecting the brake booster hose and check valve and attaching the evap hose to the chassis bundle. Rise the supported vehicle once more while installing the Oxygen Sensor wire harnesses on the retainer located at the engine's rear end and be sure to keep them safe from hot exhaust components. Then lower the vehicle.
