2009 Cadillac XLR Oxygen Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Heated Oxygen Sensor (Bank 1 Sensor 1) on 2009 Cadillac XLR?
A: Users must start the heated Oxygen Sensor (Bank 1 Sensor 1) replacement by unlocking the seal tab while removing the pcv foul air tube from its pcv orifice fitting on the right camshaft cover. Divide the bank 1, sensor 1 electrical connector assembly from the fuel rail bracket before removing the Oxygen Sensor electrical connector from the Engine Wiring Harness Connector. A small screwdriver helps remove the electrical connector retainer before separating bank 1, sensor 2 electrical connector assembly from the fuel rail bracket for connector release. Pull the Oxygen Sensor electrical connectors and wires beneath the two engine wire harnesses before raising the vehicle for support. Extract the Oxygen Sensor wire harnesses from the engine's rear retainer position while keeping track of the routing directions for later reinstallation. Use a downward pressure to disengage bank 1 sensor 1 Oxygen Sensor wire harness and connector from the engine compartment before removing the sensor unit from the Exhaust Manifold. Tighten the bank 1 sensor 1 Oxygen Sensor into position on the Exhaust Manifold using 42 nm (31 lb ft) torque. After lowering the vehicle, reach into the engine compartment to take the exhaust sensor electrical connector and wire harness upward while guiding both Oxygen Sensor electrical connectors and wires under the two engine wire harnesses. Join both Oxygen Sensor electrical connectors to the engine wiring harness connectors then install the electrical connector retainer to the electrical connector. Next, place both Oxygen Sensor electrical connector assemblies (1,2) onto their respective fuel rail brackets. After connecting the pcv foul air tube to the right camshaft cover's pcv orifice fitting raise the vehicle and fasten the Oxygen Sensor wire harnesses to the retainer positioned at the engine's rear. Ensure the harnesses remain secure and well-clear of hot exhaust parts before returning the vehicle to ground level.
