2009 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake caliper bracket on 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: In order to replace the rear Brake Caliper Bracket, first lift up the brake caliper with heavy mechanic's wire or a comparable tool and ensure that the hydraulic flexible brake hose stays connected to avoid damage and leakage. Lift brake caliper from mounting bracket without disengaging the hose and remove brake pads and Brake Pad retainer from bracket. In case the bracket is being reused, clean the surfaces on the pad hardware that mate. Check the condition of the disc Brake Pad retainers for bent tabs, extreme corrosion or loosening; replace if issues are found. Finally, uninstall the brake caliper mounting bracket bolts and carry the bracket from the rear axle. Inspect the caliper bracket for bends, cracks, or damages that would require a changeout. Check the brake caliper guide pins (1, 4) for motion and the condition of the guide pin boots, seeking to uncover restrictions, looseness, or even harm ; replace as needed. For installation, apply the brake caliper mounting bracket on the rear axle making sure you do not apply thread locking compounds or common taps at the self-retaining fastener joint to prevent thread damage. Tighten the bolts secured on the bracket to 115 nm (85 lb ft). Apply a thin layer of high temperature silicone brake lubricant to the halves of the mating surface of the caliper bracket, clean the Brake Pad mating surface of retainers and install the retainers. Ensure the wear sensor-equipped disc Brake Pad is positioned correctly inboard of the rotor with the sensor's leading edge facing the rotor during forward rotation.finally fix the brake pads on the bracket and remove the support and move the brake caliper back to the position over the pads onto the mounting bracket.
