2009 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front brake calipers on a 2.2L engine (without RPO LNF) on 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Before starting brake caliper replacement (without RPO LNF) on 2.2l engines check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. Drain fluid when the level is above halfway. Support the vehicle up and remove the wheel tire set when ready. Prevent the rotor from moving with two wheel nuts when you fasten them by hand to opposite wheel studs. Depress the brake caliper piston toward the brake rotor using a large c-clamp to push the piston through until caliper removal. Unbolt the brake hose-to-caliper connection and pull out the brake hose. Separate the 2 copper brake hose gaskets that may remain stuck to the caliper or hose. Install protection devices to the openings before you remove the brake caliper guide pin bolts and pull the caliper off the bracket. Verify guide pin flexibility and check the quality of boot and boot surrounds; replace defective parts if any restrictions, loosening, or damage is found. Fit the brake caliper on its bracket before inserting the guide pin bolts and fastening them to 34 nm (25 lb ft). Put new copper brake hose gaskets in place and secure the brake hose back onto its location with the bolt while tightening it to 48 nm (35 lb ft). Release huglecion pressure from brake lines to start. Unscrew the wheel nuts during replacement and install the tire-wheel combination. Lower the vehicle and press the Brake Pedal to 2/3 of its range while engine is off then let go slowly. Retighten the Brake Pedal 15 seconds later until it performs firmly to guarantee proper positioning of the brake pads and caliper pistons.
