2009 Chevrolet HHR Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the ignition lock cylinder on 2009 Chevrolet HHR?
A: Begin the ignition switch lock cylinder replacement by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable. Start by deactivating the sir system then take off the steering column trim covers. Guide the Ignition Lock Cylinder to reach the run position. An Ignition Lock Cylinder on the steering wheel contains two retainers. You need to depress both retainers simultaneously to pull the housing out of its place. Insert an allen wrench-like tool into the lock housing access hole where it can reach the first retainer so the tool can push it in and pull the locking cylinder backwards slightly. Use the lock housing access hole to depress the second retainer so the cylinder moves backward. After pulling the lock cylinder enough to reach hole , push the second retainer down to continue. A correct release of the ignition cylinder from its housing should occur. Rephrase the procedure if the retainer placement does not succeed initially by repeating its backward and forward motion. Extract the lock cylinder from its place in the lock housing. During new lock cylinder installation insert the device into the housing in its run position and maintain correct rotational alignment. Deliver the process by mounting the steering column trim covers, enabling sir functions and reestablishing the negative battery terminal connection.
