    Q:
How to replace the ignition lock cylinder on Cadillac CTS? Posted by Customer
    A:
The battery negative cable requires removal to replace the ignition switch lock cylinder. Begin by removing the steering column shroud while implementing the correct procedure for models with and without a key release lever knob. Use an allen wrench or similar pick-type tool through the lock housing access hole to gently depress the retainer which allows extraction of the Ignition Lock Cylinder from the lock housing when the key is placed in the run position. The new Ignition Lock Cylinder installation requires positioning it at the run position before putting it into the lock housing while performing rotation checks for proper operation. Complete the installation by placing back the steering column shroud while reconnecting the battery negative cable.

    Q:
How to replace the ignition lock cylinder on Chevrolet Cobalt? Posted by Customer
    A:
In order to change the Ignition Lock Cylinder, first disconnect the negative Battery Cable and turn off the sir system. Take off the steering column trim covers, and the theft deterrent control module if existing. Turn the ignition lock to the run position. There are two retainers on the cylinder of the ignition lock; press both to avoid removing it from the housing. A small allen wrench or similar pick-type tool is used to press the first retainer through the lock housing access hole in order to allow the lock cylinder to back up a little. Then press the second retainer through the lock housing access hole to extract the cylinder out. Pull the lock cylinder out to be able to reach the second retainer at hole , depress it again. In case the ignition cylinder fails to pop out of the ignition barrel, you may need to remove and replace it several times until you find the retainer properly. When released, pull out the cylinder of the lock from the housing. For installation, the new lock cylinder is put in the run position and fully installed into the lock housing as per an appropriate turning direction. Replace theft deterrent control module if banked with steering column trim covers. Switch on the sir system, reconnect the negative Battery Cable, and code the theft deterrent control module in case there is one.

    Q:
How to Properly Remove and Install an Ignition Lock Cylinder on Chevrolet Equinox? Posted by Customer
    A:
For ignition switch lock cylinder replacement start by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable and disabling the sir system. Begin the repair by removing the steering column trim covers and the wipers/washer switch. Set the Ignition Lock Cylinder at the run position. There are two retainers on the Ignition Lock Cylinder; the application of force on both retainers enables the lock cylinder to exit its housing. A small allen wrench tool or pick-type tool should be used to push the first retainer through the lock housing hole so the lock cylinder shifts slightly backward. Push the second retainer through the lock housing access hole which allows the lock cylinder to step backward. Pull the lock cylinder out enough to access the second retainer at hole and depress it again; the ignition cylinder must come free from the housing structure. Reposition the ignition cylinder between cycles to precisely position the retaining system correctly. After removal of the lock cylinder it is essential to code both the key and lock cylinder for installation. Place the lock cylinder into its run position by inserting it into the housing while you check that it rotates correctly. First reconnect the negative Battery Cable followed by enabling the sir system then reinstall the wipers/washer switch and steering column trim covers in place.

    Q:
How to replace the ignition lock cylinder on Chevrolet Equinox? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before you replace the ignition switch lock cylinder, first, disconnect the negative Battery Cable. The steering column trim covers and the wipers/washer switch should be removed, then the system should be disabled to shut down the sir system. Turn the Ignition Lock Cylinder unto run position. There are two retainers along the Ignition Lock Cylinder; pull both to take it out of the housing. Perform this action using a small allen wrench or some other small pick type tool in order to depress the first retainer through the lock housing access hole, resulting in the backing out of the lock cylinder to a certain extent. Secondly, press the second retainer in through the lock housing access hole to back the cylinder again. Pull the lock cylinder back enough to be able to reach the second retainer in hole and press it again. If the ignition cylinder does not unlock, you might need to move it in and out a couple of times to find the retainer. After cutting, take out a lock cylinder from the housing of the lock. In installation, align with the new lock cylinder in run position and insert the lock housing, making sure it rotates properly. Replace the wipers/washer switch and the steering column trim covers. Finally, turn on the sir system and reconnect the negative Battery Cable.

    Q:
How to replace the ignition lock cylinder on Chevrolet HHR? Posted by Customer
    A:
Starting the Ignition Lock Cylinder change requires disconnecting the negative cable and disabling sir functionalities. Begin by removing steering column trim covers along with any present theft deterrent control module. Adjust the Ignition Lock Cylinder to the run position. There are two retainers on the Ignition Lock Cylinder; to extract the housing component users need to compress both retainers. Insert a small allen wrench tool through the lock housing access hole to push the first retaining pin backward thus slightly moving the lock cylinder from its position. The second retainer requires you to push through the lock housing access hole to allow backward cylinder movement. Pull the lock cylinder enough to find hole before depressing the second retainer to continue. The ignition cylinder should release from the housing; repeated movements of the ignition cylinder will help you locate the correct position for the retainer. Extract the lock cylinder out of the lock housing. Put the new lock cylinder into the run position then insert it into the lock housing while making sure it rotates correctly. Follow the installation of theft deterrent control modules if present with steering column trim cover replacement. Activate the sir system after reconnecting the negative Battery Cable. Programming of the theft deterrent control module should be completed as the final step if the vehicle has this system.
