2010 Chevrolet HHR Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the ignition lock cylinder on 2010 Chevrolet HHR?
A: To replace the ignition switch lock cylinder, the first thing to do is disconnecting the negative Battery Cable. Disable the sir system and take off the trims for the steering column. Turn the ignition cylinder clockwise to the run condition. Ignition Lock Cylinder has two retainers. Press both to extract it out of the housing. Depress the first retainer by inserting a small allen wrench or other shaped pick-type tool into the lock housing access hole so that the lock cylinder will back out slightly. Subsequently, depress the second retainer through lock housings access hole to back the cylinder back in. Pull out the lock cylinder so that you can see the second retainer at hole and press it again. In case the ignition cylinder fails to release, it might have to be moved in and out multiple times to find the retainer. Once removed, take off the lock cylinder from the lock housing. For installation, rotate the new lock cylinder to run and slide it into the lock housing with appropriate rotation. Install back the steering column trim covers, turn on the sir system, and lastly, reconnect the negative Battery Cable.
