2009 Chevrolet Impala Timing Chain Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the camshaft timing chain and sprocket on 2009 Chevrolet Impala?
A: To replace the Camshaft Timing Chain and Camshaft sprocket, take the engine front cover off first. Make an alignment between the crankshaft timing mark and the timing mark which is present at the bottom of the Timing Chain Tensioner, and afterwards have an alignment between the timing mark of the Camshaft gear and the timing mark, which is located at the top part of the Timing Chain Tensioner. Then extract the Camshaft sprocket bolts, followed by the Timing Chain, and then the Camshaft and crankshaft sprockets, then the Timing Chain Tensioner bolts and then the tensioner as well. To install, begin with the crankshaft sprocket, and apply prelube to its thrust surface. And fit the Timing Chain Tensioner, remembering to pull it down and tighten its tensioner bolts to 21 nm (15 lb ft). Squeeze the tensioner using the en-47719 (Tensioner Compressor) until it is compressed, and insert the retaining pin into the retaining holenotempty. Temporarily align crankshaft timing mark with bottom of Timing Chain Tensioner timing mark, and position the Camshaft sprocket with the Timing Chain down, then install the Timing Chain to the crankshaft gear. The timing mark of the Camshaft gear align with the timing mark at the top of the Timing Chain Tensioner, and the dowel in the Camshaft sprocket turn must align with the dowel hole on the Camshaft. Mount the Camshaft sprocket onto the Camshaft by tightening the mountings bolts at 16 nm (12 lb ft). Draw this onto the Camshaft by using the mounting bolts. Last but not least, coat the crankshaft and Camshaft sprockets with clean engine oil and install the engine front cover.
