2010 Cadillac DTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the front disc brake pads (J55) on 2010 Cadillac DTS?
A: Start your project of replacing front disc brake pads j55 by first verifying brake fluid levels in the master cylinder reservoir. Adjust the fluid amount if necessary until it reaches the midpoint. While the vehicle is elevated position mark how the wheel points to the axle flange and detach the tire wheel component. Put a large c-clamp onto the brake caliper body to push both rear pistons and outer brake pads toward the center until they clear the rotor. To maintain hydraulic brake hose safety put heavy mechanic wire between the brake caliper and keep it secure while taking out bolts from the caliper pin and c-clamp. Press down on the caliper pistons using another large c-clamp and either Brake Pad or wooden block before removing the tool. Take out the c-clamp and Brake Pad then remove the brake pads from the mount bracket along with the caliper. Inspect all Brake Pad retainers as you go. Also examine the brake rotor surface and take action if need be to recondition it. Check both the disc brake mountings alongside the brake caliper during the assessment. Place the Brake Pad retainers into their slots on the caliper bracket before bringing down the caliper assembly with new brake pads installed. Add a thin sealant stroke of high-temp silicone brake grease to the caliper pin fasteners. Fit the lower brake caliper pin bolt tightly at 113 nm (83 lb ft) and return wheel assembly, drop the vehicle, and depress brake pedal gradually to two-thirds of its length before releasing it. Keep performing this brake pedal test until the brake takes full effect before refilling and using the brakes to smooth the surface.
