2009 Cadillac DTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the front disc brake pads (J55) on 2009 Cadillac DTS?
A: In order to change front disc brake pads (J55), first check nd the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir; if the level is in the middle between the max-full point and the min allowable level, there is no need for any fluids to be removed, but if it is above, remove fluids to the middleqtcore. Lift and support the vehicle and identify the relationship of the wheel to the axle flange then take off the tire and wheel assembly. If necessary, use a large c-clamp over the brake caliper body so as to compress the caliper pistons enough to slide past the brake rotor before taking the c-clamp off. Take off the brake caliper pin bolts while holding the caliper with heavy mechanic capable of preventing damage of the hydraulic flexible brake hose. Pivot the caliper body upwards and fix it and then fix with another big c- clamp against an old inner Brake Pad or wood block to totally compress the caliper pistons before removing the c- clamp and old Brake Pad. Pry off the Brake Pad retainers from the caliper mounting bracket and inspect them; use a hole punch to shape them back in case any pieces break. Check the rotor surface mount and change it if refinishing is required and brake caliper and disc brake mounting hardware. Mount the Brake Pad retainers into the caliper bracket and rotate the caliper down over the pad and then use a thin layer of silicone brake lubricant to the brake caliper pin bolts. Install the lower brake caliper pin bolt and tighten it to 113 nm (83 lb ft), then install the tire and wheel assembly, lower the vehicle, and with the engine off, slowly pump the brake pedal until approximately 2/3 of travel, then slowly release it. Do this until a firm brake pedal is obtained and the pads and rotor have been burnished by filling the brake master cylinder reservoir with its correct level.
