2010 Cadillac DTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the RH secondary camshaft intermediate timing chain on 2010 Cadillac DTS?
A: Begin right side Timing Chain replacement by removing the right Timing Chain tensioner before moving on to the camshaft position (CMP) sensor and the right camshaft cover. Before mounting the j 44212 (Camshaft Holding Tool) over the camshafts ensure that both camshaft sprocket drive pins are positioned at their top rotation point. The mechanics wire which holds the right Timing Chain shoe must be removed before unbolting the engine front cover. The hex cast on the camshaft requires an open-end wrench to stop its rotation during right exhaust camshaft sprocket bolt removal. After sliding the right exhaust camshaft sprocket off the camshaft remove the right Timing Chain from the camshaft sprocket teeth while lifting it clear of the timing drive shaft sprocket teeth before extracting it from the engine. You should inspect all timing drive components after cleaning them. To install the right Timing Chain slide it downward through the right cylinder head toward the right intake camshaft sprocket then follow the outer row of timing drive shaft sprocket teeth. Insert the right exhaust camshaft sprocket through the chain onto the camshaft while making sure the re notch properly pins the exhaust camshaft. Use your open-end wrench to lock the right camshaft sprocket from spinning then fasten its bolt to 120 nm (89 lb ft) torque. After installing the right Timing Chain tensioner you should remove the j 44212 from both camshafts before reinstalling the right camshaft cover and cmp sensor.
