• Q: How to replace the RH secondary camshaft timing chain on 2009 Cadillac DTS?

  A: Proper replacement of the right Timing Chain starts with removing the right Timing Chain tensioner followed by the Camshaft position (CMP) sensor and the right Camshaft cover. Secure the j44212 (Camshaft Holding Tool) over the camshafts with both sprocket drive pins positioned at the top of their rotational position. Start by removing the right Timing Chain shoe support mechanics wire followed by the engine front cover bolt. While removing the right exhaust Camshaft sprocket bolt use an open-end wrench on the hex cast that is embedded in the Camshaft to maintain Camshaft stability. Start by removing the right exhaust Camshaft sprocket from its position on the Camshaft before detaching the right Timing Chain from the sprocket teeth. After lifting the chain from the intermediate drive shaft sprocket teeth users can take it out of the engine. Inspection along with cleaning process should be applied to Camshaft timing drive components. During installation place the right Timing Chain through the right cylinder head's right intake Camshaft sprocket before nestling it around the outer row of the Camshaft intermediate drive shaft sprocket teeth. Drop the exhaust Camshaft sprocket into position within the chain while placing it onto the Camshaft ensuring the notch marked re faces the exhaust Camshaft pin. Use a second open-end wrench to stop Camshaft sprocket rotation before tightening its bolt to 120 nm (89 lb ft). After installing the right Timing Chain tensioner you need to take off the j 44212 tool from both camshafts before putting back the right Camshaft cover and cmp sensor.
