• Q: How to replace the RH secondary camshaft timing chain on 2008 Cadillac DTS?

  A: The right Timing Chain replacement procedure starts with tensioner removal from the right Timing Chain. First remove the camshaft position (CMP) sensor followed by the right camshaft cover. Deploy the camshaft holding tool (J 44212) to place atop the camshafts after ensuring their sprocket drive pins reach their highest point in rotation. Next remove both the engine front cover bolt at the engine front and the mechanics wire that supports the right Timing Chain shoe. An open-end wrench on the hex point of the camshaft allows safe bolt removal from the right exhaust camshaft sprocket. The right exhaust camshaft sprocket comes off the camshaft after removing the right Timing Chain which runs between both camshaft sprocket teeth and camshaft intermediate drive shaft sprocket teeth before extraction. Check and clean all components that make up the timing system of the camshaft. During the right camshaft assembly follow this order: first thread the right Timing Chain from inside the right Cylinder Head through the right intake camshaft sprocket then lead the chain along the outer camshaft intermediate drive shaft sprocket teeth and put the right exhaust camshaft sprocket onto the camshaft while aligning the re notch mark with the exhaust camshaft pin. With an open-end wrench in hand prevent the camshaft sprocket bolt from rotating as you tighten it to 120 n.m (89 lb ft). Start by installing the Timing Chain tensioner then you must remove the holding tool j 44212 prior to reinstalling the right camshaft cover and cmp sensor.
