- Q: How to replace the right camshaft on 2008 Cadillac DTS?A: The replacement of the right Camshaft requires first removing both the right Camshaft cover alongside the Camshaft Position Sensor. Place the Crankshaft at tdc of the #1 compression stroke while making sure both drive pins of the Camshaft sprocket reach their highest point. Use the Camshaft holding tool (J 44212) to cover the camshafts then make Timing Chain mark indications along the timing marks of each Camshaft sprocket using a paint stick. To install the Timing Chain retention tool (EN 46327) continue as follows: switch the wing nut to its uppermost position while setting the bottom tool on the Cylinder Head near the right exhaust Camshaft sprocket and chain then feed the hook end into a secondary Timing Chain link. Follow this action by setting the upper retention tool beside the right intake Camshaft sprocket and chain on the engine block. Move the wing nut until it touches the tool block before stopping it from tightening. Tighten the wing nuts alternately between each other to maintain chain retention. An open wrench placed on the camshafts' hex end will stop Camshaft rotation before you take off both Camshaft sprocket bolts and remove the Camshaft sprockets. Following all valve spring pressure release the technician should remove the Camshaft bearing caps along with j 44212 from the camshafts before extracting both camshafts and Camshaft followers. Clean and inspect the camshafts. Before installation the followers need lubricated at their roller pivot pocket and valve slot areas and placed onto valve tips with stationary hydraulic lash adjusters and then the Camshaft carriers need to be cleaned. Apply lubrication to the Camshaft carriers and the Camshaft journals and lobes before placing the Camshaft into the carriers with sprocket drive pins oriented at the highest position possible. Before installation of these bearing caps check their markings then apply lubricant before following the installation sequence according to provided identifiers. Secure the Camshaft bearing cap bolts to 5 n.m (44 lb in) then continue tightening by 30 degrees with the angle meter (J 45059). Set the camshafts to their correct positions before re-purposing j 44212 to cover the camshafts and installing the intake and exhaust Camshaft sprockets which must align with the disassembly paint marks. The open wrench should be used for rotation prevention during the installation of Camshaft sprocket bolts that need to be tightened to 120 n.m (89 lb ft). Before installation, remove en 46327 and check the Camshaft sprocket alignment using j 44212 and afterward install the Camshaft Position Sensor prior to installing the right Camshaft cover.
