2010 Cadillac STS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace the Air Bag Clockspring Assembly on 2010 Cadillac STS?
A: You need to disable the sir system before working with the air bag clock spring assembly / spiral cable. The wheels must face forward while you hold the Steering Wheel in place with either the anti-rotation pin (J 42640) or a strap to stop wheel rotation because damage to the sir system could occur. Start by removing the Steering Shaft's Steering Wheel and extracting the tilt lever if present before removing the torx(R) head screws to remove lower and upper trim covers. Users must first detach wire harness straps then eliminate the retaining ring before removing the sir coil. Discard existing sir coils when performing coil replacements. When installing the new sir coil assembly keep it in the perfect center position until the installation work is finished. Propel the sir coil assembly toward the horn tower on the turn signal cancel cam assembly before sliding the sir coil onto the Steering Shaft assembly while firmly installing the retaining ring. Secure the upper and lower trim covers using torx(R) head screws while making sure their tabs fit correctly into position. Drive vehicles with tilt column steering by positioning the tilt lever correctly then maintaining the lock position. The install process ends with Steering Wheel placement onto the Steering Shaft followed by sir system activation.
