2010 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front disc brake pads with RPO LNF on 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Before starting pad replacement for lnf brakes look at brake master cylinder fluid level. Lower it to the mid-point when fluid is present above that range. Raise the vehicle and take out the tire and wheel set first. Press the retainer down at its bottom end and use a hammer and punch tool to push the lower guide pin gently towards the center of the caliper. Then rotate the Brake Pad retainer upwards and take it out. Push the brake caliper toward the mount to expose its pin and expand the Brake Pad backing plates against a disc Brake Pad spreader until all pistons are fully compressed into their bores. Take out brake pads from their location in the caliper. When guide pins of brake calipers have damage or corrosion replace them completely instead of repairing. Look for damage on the Brake Caliper Piston boot and order a new component when needed. Position the new brake pads in the caliper then guide the upper caliper pin through all three components and properly anchor it using hammer and punch. Push down on the Brake Pad retainer bottom while turning its upper end clockwise into place under the pin assembly. Put the lower caliper guide pin through the parts and into both brake pads while positioning it correctly. Put the wheel and tire in place and lower the vehicle. After turning off the engine apply brake pressure to 2/3 of brake stroke before easing up. Press the brake pedal ten times while waiting 15 seconds then continuing the steps until your brake pedal feels solid to fully position the brake caliper pistons and pads. Add brake fluid to the master cylinder until it reaches the needed amount and let the brakes work on the rotors for a smooth setup.
