2010 GMC Yukon Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Camshaft Position Sensor on 2010 GMC Yukon?
A: The replacement process of Camshaft Position Sensors requires first cleaning around the CMP sensor to stop objects from entering the engine compartment. Start by raising and supporting the vehicle before taking out the engine shield. The engine wiring harness electrical connector needs detachment from the CMP sensor wire harness while the CMP sensor wire harness electrical connector should be separated from the CMP actuator magnet. The crankshaft balancer opening allows access to the CMP sensor wire harness bolt which can be loosened by 2 turns with a box wrench. After loosening, you can remove both remaining bolts to lower the vehicle. A flat-bladed tool will help unlock the CMP sensor wire harness electrical connector retainer that detaches it from the CMP sensor while you remove the wire harness and sensor together with its O-ring seal. First check the O-ring seal for damages. If it remains intact you can apply clean engine oil to the seal before placing it onto the sensor. Install the CMP sensor first onto the front cover while proceeding with second installation of the CMP sensor wire harness. Before moving on with installation, ensure complete retention of the CMP sensor by the connector's retainer when connecting the electrical connector of the CMP sensor wire harness. When the vehicle reaches the correct height raise it again to install both rear CMP sensor wire harness bolts and torque them to 12 Nm (106 lb in). Complete the fixture of the CMP sensor wire harness bolt through the crankshaft balancer opening by using a box wrench prior to connecting the CMP sensor wire harness electrical connector to the CMP actuator magnet and the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the CMP sensor wire harness. Finally, install the engine shield.
