You should recover the refrigerant followed by Battery Cable disconnection prior to replacing the accumulator. First disconnect the accumulator cover from the evaporator cables by removing the accumulator cover. After disconnecting the cables from the underhood fuse block then remove the positive Battery Cable nut and cable. The first step includes removal of the a/c compressor hose nut from the accumulator while disconnecting the a/c compressor hose before taking off the evaporator hose nut and the evaporator hose from the accumulator. Complete the repair by taking out the accumulator from its housing position. Before reinstalling the a/c lines and hoses, check for damage to the seal washers while installing the accumulator properly filled with the appropriate amount of refrigerant oil into the housing. Secure the evaporator hose to the accumulator followed by tightening its hose nut to 20 n.m (15 lb ft). You should connect the a/c compressor hose to the accumulator followed by installation of the a/c compressor hose nut at 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Place the accumulator cover into position then connect the evaporator hose into the retainer followed by installing the positive Battery Cable with nut to the underhood fuse block and tighten the nut to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). The negative Battery Cable requires connection for a/c system recharge and the technician should test the component fittings using the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
