Buick Regal Oxygen Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: What tools and precautions are necessary for replacing the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) on Buick Regal?
A: The replacement of heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) requires using the Oxygen Sensor wrench (J 39194) as a necessary tool. Proper handling of both ho2s and o2s requires attention to their in-line electrical connector and louvered end so they stay free from debris and contaminants but never use cleaning fluids because of safety concerns. Before removing bank 1 sensor 2 always verify your engine temperature exceeds 48°c (120°F) since this will defend against Exhaust Manifold or Exhaust Pipe threading damage. Perform the following sequence to start: turn off the ignition followed by vehicle lifting and support installation. To remove the ho2s electrical connector, first push out the tab protecting the electrical connector then detach the Oxygen Sensor connection from the connector assembly. The Oxygen Sensor wrench (J 39194) will extract the Oxygen Sensor from the Exhaust Pipe. The Oxygen Sensor threads require installation with a special anti-seize compound. Treatment should be already present on fresh sensors. Oxygen sensors getting new service require existing anti-seize compound but when reinstalling used sensors they need equivalent anti-seize compound p/n 5613695. The Oxygen Sensor needs to be installed into the Exhaust Pipe at a wrench torque of 41 n.m (30 lb ft). Secure the ho2s connector to its electrical connector while installing the retaining tab before lowering the vehicle.
