Cadillac CTS Emblem Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the rear compartment lid emblem/nameplate (w/o B57) on Cadillac CTS?
A: You will need a Heat Gun (J 25070) and 3M(TM) Scotch Brite body panel adhesive remover disk or equivalent with a lint-free cloth to prepare for the replacement. For plastic panels use VMP naphtha or a 50/50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water as well as a small plastic flat-bladed tool. First put tape on both sides of the emblem/nameplate to prevent damage. Use the Heat Gun (J 25070) in circular movements 152 mm away from the surface to heat the emblem/nameplate for 30 seconds. Use a plastic flat-bladed tool to gently peel off the emblem/nameplate because the plastic tip stops damage to the paint surface. Use the designated methods to remove all the adhesive from the surface. Use the installation area as your work surface. It should stay free of dust and water and you should tape a guide at 0.94-inch (24 mm) above the horizontal side and 8.23-inch (209 mm) below the vertical edge of the rear compartment. Apply the Heat Gun (J 25070) at 27-41°C (80-105°F) to the assembly surface while the emblem/nameplate stays between 29-32°C (85-90°F). Put both your hands clear from the adhesive and remove the protective liner. Set the emblem/nameplate over its designated marks before pressing it hard onto the area. Press each part of the emblem to make strong contact and then look for full bonding performance. Fix any loose points with your hand and lift the tape off the bonded area.
