Cadillac DTS Rack and Pinion Boot Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rack and Pinion Boot and breather tube off on Cadillac DTS?
A: You should start by using keystone clamp pliers (J 22610) to remove the outer tie rod for vehicle Rack And Pinion boot and breather tube replacement. Remove first the Tie Rod End clamp from the Rack And Pinion boot while also taking off the hexagon jam nut from the inner tie rod assembly. Cut off the Rack And Pinion boot's boot clamp with your side cutters then discard it. Before taking the rack-and-pinion boot off, mark the breather tube's position on the assembly compartment. Observe the inner tie rod for signs of corrosion or contamination following boot removal. Repair steps should begin without parts replacement but Rack And Pinion replacement becomes necessary if no damage is identified. Leadership teams must first separate the Rack And Pinion boot from the system and take out the optional breather tube when doing so. During reassembly install a new boot clamp into the Rack And Pinion boot before greasing both the inner tie rod assembly and the Rack And Pinion gear assembly and then rebuilding the Rack And Pinion boot on the inner tie rod assembly. The installation of the breather tube requires alignment of the tube and the Rack And Pinion boot's molded nipple through its previously marked location. The Rack And Pinion boot must remain straight without puckering along its length; gently adjust it if necessary. After positioning it properly the technician must handle the boot for necessary adjustments before placing it inside the gear assembly groove. Use keystone clamp pliers (J 22610) to place and crimp the boot clamp which secures the Rack And Pinion boot. To finish building the assembly use keystone clamp pliers (J 22610) for the Tie Rod End clamp and hexagon jam nut to secure both elements onto the Rack And Pinion boot.
