The following tools are required to service and repair the crankshaft main bearing seal, in other words for crankshaft rear oil seal and housing replacement: j 8092 driver handle (J 8092) and j 44215 rear seal installer (J 44215). First, remove the
Flywheel from the two bolts restraining the
Oil Pan to crackshaft rear oil seal housing, and then crackshaft rear oil seal housing bolts. Make two bolts inserted into the threaded hollows to serve as jack screws and tighten them equally to cause the freeing of the crankshaft rear oil seal housing from the engine block and Oil Pan and the removal of housing of the two bolts from the jack screws hollows do not damage the seal bore while retracting and discarding the crankshaft rear oil seal from the housing with the use of hammer and punch. Clean and inspect the crankshaft rear oil seal housing along with the sealing surfaces of the engine block and the Oil Pan. Use a 3 mm (0.12 inch) bead of sealer gm p/n 12378521 (Canadian P/N 88901148) on the crankshaft rear oil seal housing where it interfaces with the engine block, where it interfaces with the Oil Pan, and the interface of Oil Pan with location of crankshaft rear oil seal housing, in not more than 10 minutes after applying the sealer on the crankshaft rear oil seal housing. Line up the housing with the right alignment dowel tilting the left up to just a little while checking the alignment with the left dowel then press the housing against the engine block into place. Install the crankshaft rear oil seal housing bolts as well as the two Oil Pan bolts and tighten both to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Lubricate the lip of crankshaft rear oil seal with clean engine oil lightly and then place the plastic installation sleeve which is supplied with new seal facing the crankshaft, then install the crankshaft rear oil seal into the housing with the j 44215 and the j 8092 by using a hammer to ensure that the spring side of the seal is facing the engine and installing squarely till bottom out on the housing. Finally, reinstall the Flywheel.
