Q: How to replace the crankshaft on Chevrolet Aveo?
A: First mount the engine assembly on the otc 1726 (KM 412) engine overhaul stand before proceeding with Crankshaft replacement. First remove bolts securing the Flywheel and then the Flywheel itself and next the Crankshaft rear oil seal. The j 42492-a (KM 421-A) timing belt adjuster helps relieve Timing Belt tension while you use it to loosen Water Pump retaining bolts. First disconnect the crankcase ventilation tubes and engine cover bolts and ignition wires then pull off the valve cover along with its separate components. Next, remove the Timing Belt automatic tensioner and idler pulley after extracting both the camshaft gears. Following the connecting rod and Crankshaft bearing cap sequence, remove and clean the Crankshaft assembly including its bearings. Clean all parts until they meet requirements before installing the Crankshaft alongside bearings while applying engine oil to each bearing. Apply torque on Crankshaft bearing cap bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) using j 45059 angle meter or km-470-b angular torque gage while simultaneously turning each bolt an additional 45 degrees. After applying engine oil to the connecting rod bearings, tighten them to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) then complete additional 30-degree torque and 15-degree torque. Next install the Oil Pump by tightening its retaining bolts before installing the oil pickup tube with its bolts. Begin installing the Oil Pan combined with its gasket while its application of liquid gasket remains within 5 minutes. Reinstall the rear Timing Belt cover along with its bolts followed by placement of Crankshaft Timing Belt gear and automatic tensioner. The Timing Belt Idler Pulley bolt requires torque of 40 nm (30 ft. Lbs.) then tighten the intake camshaft and exhaust camshaft gear bolts to 67.5 nm (49 ft. Lbs.). The Timing Belt receives reinstallation while tension adjustment takes place and valve cover gasket sealing occurs with gasket sealant. Complete valve cover assembly while attaching ignition wires and putting back the engine cover. After connecting the crankcase ventilation tube it's time to reinstall the front Timing Belt cover then place the Power Steering Pump if your vehicle has this component. Reinstall the engine after installing an otc 1726 Crankshaft rear oil seal using j 36972 (KM 635) and tightening the Flywheel's bolts to 35 nm with an additional 30-degree installation followed by 15 degrees tightening with j 45059 or km-470-b.
