Chevrolet HHR Lash Adjuster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the exhaust camshaft and lash adjusters on Chevrolet HHR?
A: It is necessary to remove the camshaft position exhaust actuator before starting the exhaust camshaft and valve lifter replacement. Each bolt attaching the camshaft bearing caps needs to be unfastened one rotation before marking the caps for their correct reinstallation position. The removal process starts with extracting all camshaft bearing cap bolts and caps and concludes with taking out the exhaust camshaft. The rocker arms along with the hydraulic valve lash adjusters must be properly organized to enable their later reassembly. Next remove all components that include valve rocker arms and hydraulic valve lash adjusters. The hydraulic valve lash adjusters need to be positioned inside their Cylinder Head bores before receiving lubrication treatment alongside the valve tips. The used rocker arms should be put back on their proper camshaft positions but replacement of the camshaft requires fresh rocker arms to be installed. The procedure for camshaft installation requires position of rocker arms onto valve stems and lash adjusters followed by lubrication before installing the exhaust camshaft while applying more lubrication. Place the bearing caps according to the proper sequence before tightening the bearing cap bolts using only hand pressure. Settors should be fastened by applying turns in 3 increments until fully seated while achieving a final torque of 10 n.m (89 lb in). Implement the camshaft position exhaust actuator as a last installation step.
