Chevrolet HHR Harmonic Balancer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the harmonic balancer on Chevrolet HHR?
A: Before changing the crankshaft balancer the Drive Belt needs to be taken off first. The Harmonic Balancer holder (J 38122-A) prevents crankshaft rotation while you remove the crankshaft balancer bolt and discard the bolt. Install the new crankshaft balancer while positioning it correctly and drive in a new crankshaft balancer bolt. When tightening the crankshaft balancer bolt you should use the Harmonic Balancer holder (J 38122-A) to keep the crankshaft balancer stable. The angle meter (J 45059) indicates that the crankshaft balancer bolt should reach 100 n.m (74 lb ft) torque followed by an additional 125 degree turn. Finally, reinstall the Drive Belt.
