Chevrolet Lumina Wheel Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the wheel cylinder on Chevrolet Lumina?
A: Vehicle support and wheel removal starts by gaining vehicle height then dismounting tires and wheels. Avoid hands near rear Brake Shoe springs because they might get pinched. Bending of the splash shield or backing plate may produce brake chatter or pulsation so users should avoid touching these components. Adjuster spring damage will occur from excessive stretch. The Wheel Cylinder inlet, pilot, and bleeder valve need to be cleared of all foreign matter and dirt buildup. Start by removing brake shoes and linings followed by uninstalling the bleeder valve then the brake pipe inlet tube nut and Brake Line while sealing the opening to stop fluid loss and protect against contamination. Start by taking out Wheel Cylinder mounting bolts with the Wheel Cylinder then cleaning the backing plate along with the Wheel Cylinder when sealant reuse is planned. Installation requires loctite gm p/n 12345382 or equivalent application on the Wheel Cylinder shoulder face before setting it in position. Tighten all Wheel Cylinder mounting bolts to 12 nm (110 inch lbs.) torque specifications. Screw and tighten the brake pipe inlet tube nut to 17 nm (12 ft. Lbs.). Next, secure the bleeder valve with 7 nm (62 inch lbs.). After bleeding the Wheel Cylinder professionals should install brake shoes and linings followed by wheel installation and descending the vehicle.
