Service and maintenance of the evaporator core begins with HVAC module assembly removal followed by all outer seals from the HVAC module assembly. The recirculation housing should be separated from the HVAC module assembly before unfastening the retaining clip that secures the defroster actuator. Finally, the actuator can be removed. First detach the HVAC module assembly case through removal of its upper screws before splitting apart the case. Extract the evaporator core with attached water core filter from inside the evaporator by first removing the HVAC module assembly seal from the lower module case. To install begin by attaching the water core filter onto the evaporator followed by adding new side seal and upper seal and two new lower seals to the evaporator core. Attach the HVAC module assembly seal to the lower module case then position the evaporator core into its place in the HVAC module assembly lower case by lining up the guide before fastening both pieces of the case. Screw and tighten the two upper screws of the HVAC module assembly to 1.5 N.m (13 lb in). After replacement of the defroster actuator and the recirculation housing the technician must reinstall the HVAC module assembly following a torque schedule of 1.5 N.m (13 lb in) for its housing screws.
