To replace the Thermostat on a 3.4l engine, the air cleaner intake duct will be removed and cooling system will be drained while partially. Again, with the hose clamp pliers (J 38185), reposition the hose clamp from the water outlet housing, after that removed the radiator inlet hose from the water outlet housing. Next, unscrew the exhaust crossover pipe and the water outlet housing bolts, and then remove the water outlet housing and gasket. Remove the Thermostat, then clean the water outlet mating surfaces. For installation, installation of the Thermostat is the first step, followed by the installation of the water outlet gasket and house. Install the bolts for water outlet housing and tighten to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.), reinstall the crossover pipe for exhaust and the radiator inlet hose to the water outlet housing. Use hose clamp pliers (J 38185) once more to move and secure the hose clamp on the water outlet housing the last part will be reinstallation of the air cleaner intake duct and filling the cooling system.
