Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Wheel Speed Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the rear wheel speed sensor ring on those with a GVW greater than or equal to 3900 kg (8600 lb) on Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
A: Drivers need to lift their vehicle and take off the wheel and tire set before beginning work on vehicles with a gvw equal to or greater than 3900 kg (8600 Lb). You must now separate both the rear Wheel Speed Sensor and housing cover above the rear wheel. Using these tools j-2619-01 and j-45857 extract the Axle Shaft components including the axle housing seal in this order: Axle Shaft first, sealing ring, bearing, and Wheel Speed Sensor ring. To install the Wheel Speed Sensor ring use the driver handle j-8092 and tone ring installer j-45860 pushing the tool fully into the axle housing. Insert the Axle Shaft bearing using the j-23690 device which contains the bearing installer tool and a driver handle. Drive the assembly until the bottoming action touches the tube. Push the j-21128 tool into the Axle Shaft seal bore until it touches the tube surface. Attach the Axle Shaft first and then install the rear axle housing and the speed sensor wheel. Reattach the tire and wheel unit then place proper differential oil in the rear axle before lowering the vehicle.
