Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Air Bag Clockspring Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Air Bag Clockspring on Chevrolet Silverado 2500?
A: Start the process of replacing the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil by disabling the sir system. When servicing the wire harness strap remove the steering column trim covers and disconnect the wire harness assembly before taking off both wire harness straps from the wire harness assembly. Start by removing the wire harness strap from the upper tilt head assembly and afterward remove the retaining ring and the air bag clock spring. Steer away the wave washer from the steering column upper shaft for your task. Position the upper shaft's block tooth at the 12 o'clock mark before installing the wave washer on the steering column upper shaft. Steering column assembly sir comes factory pre-set to its right center position. When centering the pre-assembled air bag clock spring for the steering column upper shaft make sure to keep the correct alignment with the horn tower on the turn signal cancel cam before final installation. Remove and discard the centering tab post-installation while using a gentle pull on the lower coil assembly wire to avoid potential shaft lock interference. The retaining ring should go into place on the upper shaft groove before ensuring its secure installation. Plug in the wire harness assembly into the wire strap while using the upper tilt head assembly to fit the wire harness strap before fastening it to the wire harness assembly. Complete the operation by putting back the steering column trim covers while activating the sir system on.
