In order to replace the air bag clock spring first disable the sir system and position the wheels straight ahead and the steering column anti rotation pin (J 42640) is installed or ignition switch in the lock position. Take the Steering Wheel off the Steering Shaft and pull the tilt lever straight out if you have it then pull off the lower trim cover by removing two torx(R) head screws. Then, slip out the upper trim cover by removing 2 torx(R) head screws, and remove wire harness straps off the Steering Wheel column wire harness. Pull out the retaining ring together with the air bag clock spring from the Steering Shaft, discarding it if changing. For installation, check the wheels to be straight ahead and ensure the fitting of steering column anti rotation pin (J 42640) is installed, or ignition switch lock position. Align the new air bag clock spring assembly centered and in position to the horn tower on the turn signal cancel cam assembly and slide the air bag clock spring onto the Steering Shaft assembly. Then firmly seat the retaining ring into the groove of the Steering Shaft assembly, remove and discard the centering tab from the new air bag clock spring. Put on the upper trim cover with the help of two torx(R) head screws, which must be tightened to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). Do the same with the lower trim cover and ensure its tabs engage and tighten it to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). For a tilt column vehicle, align and slide the tilt lever handle into the steering column up to its locking point and install the Steering Wheel into the Steering Shaft and activate the sir system.

The process of extracting and installing the inflatable restraint air bag clock spring begins with disabling the sir system and positioning the Steering Column lock and straight-faced wheel movement to safeguard the sir coil assembly. Apply the Steering Column anti rotation pin (J 42640) to lock down the Steering Column. Begin by separating the Steering Wheel from its shaft before drawing the tilt lever straight forward for models with this option. The procedure starts by breaking off 2 torx(R) head screws from the lower trim cover and the subsequent removal of that cover before using the same tool to split off 2 torx(R) head screws from the upper trim cover for its subsequent removal. The installation process requires disconnecting the wire harness assembly from its base at the column after unfastening the retaining ring and removing the wire harness straps from the column wire harness. Remove the sir coil and wire harness assembly and keep the old sir coil for replacement if necessary. Align the new sir coil assembly with the horn tower on the turn signal cancel cam assembly before seating the retaining ring into the groove on the Steering Shaft assembly. Beyond taking away its centering tab, connect the new sir coil's wire harness assembly to the column frame by wiring around it through secure straps. Install the upper trim cover first with the 2 torx(R) head screws while tightening them to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). Then install the lower trim cover with the 2 torx(R) head screws while confirming proper tab engagement. Finally reinstall the tilt lever if needed while you attach the Steering Wheel to the Steering Shaft and enable the sir system.

Did you know that to remove and install the air bag clock spring, drivers should make sure the wheels of the vehicle are in a forward direction and the Steering Column in a place lock to avoid damaging the sir coil assembly because the latter becomes uncentered and may cause damage. Start by checking for the installation of the anti-rotation pin (J 42640) or the lock condition of the ignition switch. Next, disconnect any needed electrical connectors and remove the Steering Wheel and the Steering Column shroud examining the coil of the air bag clock spring for a retaining ring then remove the retaining ring and discard. Unfasten the coil in the Steering Shaft and, if it is so, dispose of the old coil. For installation: make sure the new sir coil assembly is centred and do not pull the parting tab until installation is done. Water jacket flange: align the new air bag clock spring with the horn tower on the turn signal switch cancel cam and slip the coil on the Steering Shaft and secure the new retaining ring in the groove of the Steering Shaft. Once you take off the centering tab from the new coil, you might connect all relevant electrical connectors and then reinstall the Steering Column shroud and the Steering Wheel, and only then take off the anti-rotation pin (J 42640).

First prepare the new inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module air bag clock spring installation by ensuring the wheels face forward in a straight position with the steering column in lock using the steering column anti rotation pin (J 42640) for alignment. The first step should be to turn off the sir system function. To begin the installation remove the Steering Wheel from its shaft followed by pulling the tilt lever directly if available. First disconnect both torx(R) head screws securing the lower trim before you detach the upper trim cover through its two torx(R) head screws. Start by unlinking the wire harness straps from the Steering Wheel column harness then discard the retaining ring and air bag clock spring. Throw away the original air bag clock spring when making a replacement. Install the new air bag clock spring assembly so it aligns directly with the horn tower found on the turn signal cancel cam assembly. Use the slider to position the air bag clock spring on the Steering Shaft assembly before seating the retaining ring securely in its designated groove. Install the upper trim cover after removing the centering tab from the new air bag clock spring by using 2 torx(R) head screws with torque set to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). The lower trim cover should follow with its respective 2 torx(R) head screws tightened to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in) then ensure tab engagement. Organize the installation process as follows: tilt lever (if applicable) followed by the Steering Wheel onto the Steering Shaft then activate the sir system.

Install the retaining ring and verify it is firmly seated in the groove on the upper shaft.

Ensure proper alignment with the horn tower on the turn signal cancel cam before installing the pre-centered SIR coil onto the steering column upper shaft.

Remove 2 TORX(R) head screws from the lower trim cover and take off the cover.

First disable the SIR System and ensure the vehicle's wheels are straight ahead with the steering column in the LOCK position.

Install the retaining ring and verify it is firmly seated in the groove on the upper shaft.
