  Q: How to service and repair the timing cover on Chevrolet Venture?

  A: The first step in servicing and repairing the Timing Cover is to drain the engine cooling system and engine oil. Unbend the crankshaft balancer, drive belt tensioner, Power Steering Pump with lines, and relocate the pump. Detach the thermostat bypass pipe and radiator outlet hose from the front cover deconnecting it to remove the coolant pump pulley. Remove the upper and lower crankshaft position sensor wiring harness brackets, the engine front cover bolts as well as the and in order to remove the engine front cover and its gasket. Clean the sealing surfaces and check at the front cover for damages. To change the engine front cover, remove the drive belt shield, crankshaft position sensor, and coolant pump. To install: if attempted to remove - reinstall coolant pump and crankshaft position sensor, followed by the drive belt shield, securing bolt 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Install the engine front gasket with sealer gm p/n 12346004 both sides of the lower tabs, install the engine front and tighten bolt (55 Nm/41 ft. Lbs.); bolt (47 Nm /35 ft. Lbs.); and bolts (21 Nm /16 ft. Lbs.). It is necessary to reattach the lower and upper crankshaft position sensor wiring harness brackets, coolant pump pulley, radiator outlet hose, and thermostat bypass pipe. Finally install Power Steering Pump with lines, drive belt tensioner and crank shaft balancer and this engine you have to fill new engine oil and engine coolant system.
