GMC Canyon Shift Linkage Boot Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Properly Install a Shift Linkage Boot on GMC Canyon?
A: The initial step for control lever and boot replacement involves removing the shift lever assembly according to model versions without d06 or with d06. The console removal process starts after removing the d06 from the models without this feature. You should free up the control lever boot by unscrewing its screws before gently tilting it away from the lever. After placing the transmission in neutral (N) position remove the bolts from the control lever housing assembly and then discard the assembly with its gasket. Put protective covering on the control lever housing aperture to avoid foreign entry to the transmission and remove the control lever housing assembly when necessary. The installer should begin by reassembling disassembled control lever housing when needed along with removing the masking and cleaning and drying the sealing surface. The control lever gasket should be placed on the transmission while the control lever housing assembly should be positioned through the opening with the bushing aligned to the internal shift control lever before tightening the housing assembly bolts to 20 nm (15 lb ft). Set the boot over the control lever but make sure carpet does not obstruct its position next to the floor panel before tilting the boot to fit properly to the floor. Secure the control lever boot screws with torque of 2.5 nm (22 lb in) and replace the console when appropriate. To complete the installation you need to install the shift lever assembly with or without d06 option.
