GMC Canyon Shift Linkage Boot Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace the Shift Linkage Boot on GMC Canyon?
    A:
The process to replace the control lever alongside its boot begins by removing the shift lever assembly (D06) or (W/O D06) and afterwards removing the console (w/o D06 only). The control lever boot requires removal by first unscrewing the boot screws and then tilting the boot away from the control lever. Place the transmission in the neutral position before you remove the housing bolts on the control lever assembly and then take off both the housing assembly and gasket. Covers must mask the opening of the control lever housing to shield it from transmission entry of foreign objects before performing housing disassembly. The procedure for installation begins with reassembly of the control lever housing when it required disassembly and then removing masking from the control lever opening. Both the sealing surface and control lever housing assembly must be cleaned and dry before proceeding. Prepare the control lever gasket to attach to the transmission and insert the control lever housing assembly into the matching opening on the control lever assembly while positioning the bushing correctly with respect to the internal shift control lever. The installation of the control lever housing assembly bolts must be performed with 20 n.m (15 lb ft) torque setting. Position the boot over the control lever while checking that carpet does not exist between boot and floor before lowering the boot until it sits flatly onto the floor. Secure the control lever boot screws with a torque of 2.5 n.m (22 lb in). You should then install the console without d06 while adding the shift lever assembly with d06 or without d06.
