    Q:
How to replace the A/C Accumulator in the HVAC system on Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Classic? Posted by Customer
    A:
The hvac system accumulator replacement process starts with refrigerant recovery. Use the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) to perform leak tests on the fittings following installation completion. The replacement process starts by detaching the evaporator tube nut from the evaporator before moving on to the evaporator tube. Remove the nut that attaches the evaporator tube then disconnect the electrical connector from the a/c low pressure switch. The next step is disconnecting the compressor hose by first removing the hose nut from the accumulator and then from the compressor. First disconnect the following components: the evaporator fitting nut and the nut securing the accumulator bracket to its retaining stud. Start by removing both the accumulator and the retaining bracket bolt before pulling out the retaining bracket from the accumulator. Remove the worn-out o-ring seals and replace them with fresh ones. Reinstall the retaining bracket to its place on the accumulator then connect the retaining bracket bolt and set torque to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Secure the accumulator in position using the accumulator bracket nut and tighten it to 9 n.m (80 lb in). First tighten the evaporator fitting nut to 16 n.m before connecting the compressor hose to the accumulator then attaching the compressor hose nut to 16 n.m. Reconnect the electrical connector to the a/c low pressure switch before securing a fitting nut to the evaporator tube with a torque of 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Reattach the evaporator tube to the evaporator by screwing in the evaporator tube nut then tighten it to 16 n.m (12 lb ft). Finalize your work by evacuating the system and performing a recharge procedure.
