    How to replace the Rack and Pinion Boot on Cadillac Escalade? Posted by Customer

    Begin boot replacement of the steering gear by removing the outer Tie Rod from steering linkage. Disconnect the steering linkage inner Tie Rod nut from its position on the steering linkage inner Tie Rod. First cut the steering gear boot clamp sections with side cutters before discarding the steering gear boot. Installation starts with the new steering gear boot clamp before applying grease to the steering linkage inner Tie Rod and the steering gear . Place the steering gear boot over the steering linkage inner Tie Rod . Steering gear boots must settle into their correct positions because misalignment or puckering causes issues. Adjust the steering gear boot by hand when needed before positioning it into its housing groove. Set the keystone clamp pliers (J 22610) to crimp the steering gear boot clamp then pin the pliers closed on the boot to install the clamp. Finally tighten the steering gear boot clamp then fit the boot onto the steering gear housing. Reinstall the steering linkage inner Tie Rod nut onto the inner Tie Rod and reinstall the outer Tie Rod before finalizing the installation.
