Front Cable

The first step to replace the front parking brake cable should start with completing lever pin up and loosening the cable at the adjuster. Detach the front cable from the rear cables before you uninstall both the release handle and the cable from the vehicle. The front cable must be disconnected first from the lever and the lever retainer before removing the rubber grommet through the cowl with the front cable. During installation position the front cable through the vehicle before putting force into the rubber grommet to set it into the cowl. To install the components proceed by connecting the cable first to the lever retainer before attaching it to the lever and then add the release handle and cable. Connect the front cable with its rear counterparts before removing the lever pin at the FULL up position. The threads of the equalizer require adjustment to 13 mm (0.511 inch) for Passenger/Cargo or 21 mm (0.826 inch) for Cutaway/Upfitters. The vehicle position must be checked while pressing the brake lever before executing further modifications if needed.

The inspection of the Parking Brake Cable must confirm that both the lever shows no sign of corrosion while its lubrication is sufficient for proper function and alleviates any sticking or binding when letting go. The cable routing needs inspection in case issues arise to verify no parts are bound plus all cables are properly adjusted. During regular brake lining usage the cable tension needs adjustment because of extended lever movement. Begin Brake Shoe inspection by checking its thickness which should not exceed 80 percent of its original state. Check brake shoes for wear only after discovering new indications. The park brake system must be checked for both corrosion and any possible sticking or binding conditions.

Install the rear cable to the vehicle and connect it to the backing plate retainer.
