You must examine seat belts for harm after auto incidents because the restraint safety features might face damage. A seat belt system must receive replacement when it experiences any collision severe enough to trigger air bag or seat belt pretensioner activation. Adult restraint systems as well as top tether anchorages and the LATCH system along with booster seats and infant carriers need replacement after a collision incident. A repair or replacement effort must be performed for any seat belt system consisting of torn, worn or damaged parts that involves adult seat belts and built-in child restraints and LATCH system components. Replacement of a seat belt system after minor collisions does not require immediate action unless the components show visible damage.
