    Q:
How to Replace a Shock Absorber (W/F55) on Cadillac XLR? Posted by Customer
    A:
The replacement process for the Shock Absorber (W/F55) starts with vehicle elevation and maintenance before moving to tire wheel removal. You need to disconnect both the rear shock electronic suspension control (ESC) harness connector together with the harness pigtail from the upper shock tower clip. Detach the lower Shock Absorber to lower control arm retaining bolt and also remove the upper Shock Absorber mounting bolts. Detach the outer tie rod from the suspension knuckle before removing the Shock Absorber from the vehicle while following a suitable path for the esc pigtail and connector through the upper shock tower. The Shock Absorber requires removal of both the upper insulator retainer along with its matching insulator. Attach the upper insulator retainer and insulator to the Shock Absorber while maintaining esc connector inward and bottom bracket white paint mark outward and directing the bracket to esc connector at 180 degree orientation. The Shock Absorber installation to shock tower and lower control arm should be done with special attention paid to the esc pigtail and connector. Screw the upper Shock Absorber bolts to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) while using 220 nm (162 ft. Lbs.) for the lower Shock Absorber retaining bolt. You should install the outer tie rod to the suspension knuckle as well as route the harness pigtail through the upper shock tower clip while connecting the rear shock esc harness connector. The tire along with wheel should be installed before lowering the vehicle.
