• Q: How to Replace a Shock Absorber (W/F55) Effectively on 2005 Cadillac XLR?

  A: The Shock Absorber (W/F55) replacement process begins with disconnecting the front shock esc harness connector followed by vehicle elevation and support. Before proceeding separate the tire-wheel assembly while making sure esc connector seals properly on the upper portion of the shock shaft. The shock needs to be replaced when any damage occurs. The front Shock Absorber (W/F55) replacement starts by removing upper mounting nuts, insulator retainer and insulator before lowering mounting bolts and nuts. A pry bar should be used to compress the Shock Absorber from below toward the top. After compression install the shock support tool (J 43822). First remove the Shock Absorber from the vehicle and then remove the j 43822 from the Shock Absorber before finally taking off the insulator and insulator retainer. The j 43822 goes on the Shock Absorber first before adding the insulator followed by the insulator retainer. The Shock Absorber needs to go between the upper shock support and lower Control Arm with installation of the insulator followed by the insulator retainer and upper shock shaft nut which needs to be tightened to 26 nm (19 ft. Lbs.). The j 43822 should be removed from the Shock Absorber before using the transverse spring compressor (J 33432-A) to compress the coil spring. Then raise the lower Control Arm to the Shock Absorber lower mounting and install bolts and nuts while tightening the nut to 28 nm (21 ft. Lbs.). Connect the esc harness connector after lowering the vehicle then put the tire and wheel assembly in place while removing the j 33432-a from the coil spring. End the operation by verifying the connector connection when pulling softly on it.
