How to replace the lower control arm on 2005 Cadillac XLR?

Start the replacement by first supporting the vehicle while it's elevated and then taking off the tire wheel assembly. Before proceeding use the transverse spring remover (J 33432-A) to separate the front transverse spring then disconnect the Wheel Speed Sensor electrical connector. The shock absorber and stabilizer shaft link must be taken out from the lower Control Arm. Separate the lower ball joint stud from the Steering Knuckle by using the ball joint separator (J 42188) after loosening the ball joint stud nut but not removing it. Following ball joint separator (J 42188) and ball joint stud nut removal, extract the ball joint stud from the Steering Knuckle. Record the cam bolts' original positions before you take out the cam bolts, washers, and nuts that attach the Control Arm to the crossmember to extract the lower Control Arm from the car. Install the lower Control Arm by first inserting it into the vehicle position before tightening the cam bolts with washers and nuts while maintaining their marked order. Ignore wheel alignment torques requirements during initial bolt tightening. Use an allen wrench on the ball joint stud to stop it from spinning during installation into the Steering Knuckle before tightening the nut to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) and making an additional 180-degree turn. Fix the stabilizer shaft link to the lower Control Arm before torquing its link nut to 72 nm (53 ft. Lbs.). Then install the front transverse spring and uninstall the spring compressor tool (J 33432-A). First, attach and fasten the shock absorber to the lower Control Arm using 28 nm (21 ft. Lbs.) torque for the lower mounting nuts before reconnecting the Wheel Speed Sensor harness connector. When finished replace the jack stands then reinstall wheels and tires while lowering the vehicle before conducting a front wheel alignment using 170 nm (125 ft. Lbs.) when tightening the lower Control Arm cam bolt nuts.
